This goal includes the providing of:
Safe and Wholesome Living Environments
Necessary Shelter, Food and Clothing
Physical Assessment
Personal Counseling
Family Relationship Counseling
Spiritual Guidance
The establishment of this program is in its infancy. Our guidelines are in place and we are working with a few individuals who exhibit a sincere desire to change their lives from destructive life patterns to productive and self-sustaining life patterns.
A small amount of money has been advanced to some individuals with an understanding regarding reimbursement of a portion of those advanced funds each time a sale is made by them in the operation of their small business or trade. We, of course, charge no interest and are most interested in encouraging the development of a lifestyle that will allow these individuals to become self-supporting and better citizens of their respective communities.
The number of participants in our Our Self-Help Program will increase as we monitor results from those individuals already in the Program.
Initial requirements that allow an individual to be considered for participation in our Self-Help Program include:
1) The individual must desire a change in his or her lifestyle from a non-productive and unwholesome type of living to that of having a sincere desire to become a productive citizen of the community.
2) The individual must accept responsiblity for family obligations.
3) A trade or craft that will provide for economic self-sufficieny must be studied.
4) Attendance at our regularly scheduled counseling and review sessions is mandatory.
Upon qualification based upon the above broad guidelines we begin an evaluation process which includes:
1. Personality evaluation by our counseling staff
2. Establish educational levels of the individual
3. Health team will evaluate the physical condition of the participant with necessary tests
4. Disease prevention, teaching and proper nutrition classes will be given, especially HIV and AIDs education
5. Physical care will be given for any illnesses discovered and treatable with our resources
6. Personality disorders will be assessed by mental health care team and treatment begun if necessary
7. Counseling by spiritual advisor will begin as soon as possible for spiritual well being of the individual
8. Rules and guidelines of the program will be discussed and outcome expectations for the participant
Exit Strategy
Pending further development and documented results the individual "exit" from the Self-Help Program will be on an individual case by case basis with full written documentation of progress made or not made with the indivdual that is exiting the Program. In any event, we will attempt to have at least a monthly followup with each indivdual and will document the reults of those follow up meetings.
Our Self-Help Program falls under what we call "Urgent Needs" and you can help us with a finiancial gift for our Urgent Needs. Your prayers are, as always, very much coveted. Pray for this program to grow as the Lord intends it to grow and that we will be faithful in administering it under His guidance. We truly serve in a needy area.
